In this activity, you will research sustainable water systems projects that could make a difference in your community. 1. With your teacher’s permission, watch the video, “ How to Build a Rain Garden in Two Days ” at https://www.nature.org/ourinitiatives/regions/northamerica/ unitedstates/native-gardening-videos.xml, produced by the Nature Conservancy. It tells the story of a community in New Jersey that built a rain garden to help keep polluted storm water from running off into a nearby river. 2. After watching the video, work with a partner or small group to research other possible sustainable water system projects. 3. Brainstorm a list of at least five projects and then pick your favorite. 4. Write a proposal explaining the project, and how it would benefit the community. 5. Write an action plan explaining how you might implement the project. 6. Present your proposal and action plan to the class. CHECK YOUR UNDERSTANDING 1.
