Unit 2 | Humanity’s Ecological Footprint 47 2.7 CLIMATE CHANGE EFFECTS Climate change affects parts of the world differently. Areas, such as the Arctic, are undergoing dramatic warming trends, while other areas are seeing extreme swings in temperature and precipitation. Scientists have observed a wide range of negative effects due to global climate change. Sea level is rising from melt- ing glaciers. Local and regional weather patterns are shifting, leading to increased droughts in some areas of the world and increased rain, snow, and flooding elsewhere. Hurricanes and typhoons are becoming more powerful as seawater warms and the air above oceans becomes more humid.
